"Dr. Phil" House Shut Down By Angry Residents

"Dr. Phil" has had to shut down production at a location for a popular segment of the show, after angry neighbors waged a revolt. It seems the cocaine addicts and others who were holed up in the house didn't go over too well with residents on the block.

Every Monday, "Dr. Phil" features guests who live together for a week in the "Dr. Phil House," a home located in the mid-Wilshire district of Los Angeles. Peteski Productions, Dr. Phil's production company, purchased the residence last June. The inside was gutted and remodeled with the help of Phil's wife, Robin. We're told 45 cameras were installed in the home, and a brain center was built in the pool house, dubbed "video village." Miles of wires were run throughout the inside and outside of the house, much to the dismay of complaining neighbors.

But neighbors say the unsightly wires were nothing compared to the nonstop noise and ear-shattering arguing coming from addicts, racists, misfits and others who populated the house. Tom Griep, who lives next door, told TMZ he was none too happy when "two crack cocaine addicts were yelling at each other for all to hear."

Griep adds "Dr. Phil" violated the city's ground rules by taping past midnight many nights and starting up again before 7AM. Griep says some of the production staff were rude and uncooperative. He also claims the staff cut his hedge down. Griep and other neighbors allege the show constantly violated parking restrictions on the street and created an extreme eyesore with cables and all. Neighbors also claim the low-life clientele in the house caused several disturbances.

Neighborhood residents contacted the LAPD and other agencies on a regular basis, complaining that the show was turning their lives upside down. As Steven and Susan Jamerson put it, "Our once-peaceful neighborhood has now turned into a studio backlot." Griep says a production executive told him the taping would continue for several years.

Seventy-six residents signed a petition protesting the production and after a meeting last month with city officials, production was shut down. FilmL.A., the agency that processes permits for shooting TV shows and movies, has been instructed by city officials not to issue future permits for the house in question.

City officials tell TMZ the show had requested eight additional shoots, each lasting between five and nine days, but the request was rejected. An official for FilmL.A. tells TMZ that "Dr. Phil" was trying to turn the house into a studio, and that violates the city's zoning laws.

In a statement to TMZ, a rep from "Dr. Phil" said, "Our primary objective has always been to be extremely respectful of the neighbors and we have accommodated their requests whenever they have arisen." The spokesman says the show has received a lot of neighborhood support.

The spokesman adds that production vehicles did not park on the street and taping was limited to inside the house.

468. Dr. Phil, I knew it from the beginning that he was a phoney. And his mentor. ..another phoney ,Oprah. At the very least he needs to lose weight being that he always has shows about people w/ weight problems. Who knows what his credentials are, if any. I hope this is the end of his show and him. Its sad that no one seems to have any morals anymore. At least Jerry Springer isnt a phoney about his show. Dr. Phil, he couldnt use his last name, whatever that is. I wonder why......

469. PUH-LEEEEEEEZ!!!!!!!!!! Phil should be fined by that neighborhood and have to pay damages to every resident there who had to hear and see all that garbage. KEEP IT ON YOUR STAGE PHIL IF YOU WANT TO TURN YOUR SHOW INTO A JERRY SPRINGER KNOCK-OFF! Between the crack/whore house he opened up and his son marrying a real life ho, Phil's career is going to go down! But let's hope it's not Tyra who ends up taking his place. Now THERE'S a dingbat who thinks she's a shrink!

470. Dr Phil isn't going anywhere. Oprah and Dr Phil should be Prez and Vice Prez! They both do more good than anyone I know.

Show all americans that every streets has some drugs, abuse (any type), adultery going on. Blacks, Whites, any color in between.

472. Amen to post #472

I am white. I love Dr. Phil and Oprah because they speak the truth and don't take crap from "dirtbags" with selfish agendas!.

I come from a very dysfunctional family! My father has been married 9 times! I am the oldest of his 4 children born of his 1st wife.

Both my brothers are lifelong drug addicts. Neither one of them have ever remained gainfully employed for long and always seem to fall back to the call of the druggie lifestyle. They have created more trouble for me, our family, the children they have fathered (and don't pay any child support for!) and on and on.

Our father was a very mean, cold, abusive man and it's almost understandable why my brothers would choose drugs as their escape from feeling so worthless, but there comes a time when one has to grow up and take responsibility for oneself, problems or not! You just can't go on leaving an endless wake of destruction and expect your family members to just roll over and accept it indeffinately.

I have had to draw a line to save myself from my abusive, dysfunctional family. I moved across the country to get away from them.

I couldnt' escape my own dysfunction and ended up in a very bad long term abusive marriage. Thank God that is over now and I survived!

I have depended on the wisdom of Oprah and Dr. Phil and others for a long time. They have helped me realize my worth and appreciate my goodness and all the effort I put in to making things right. They have helped me recognize where to "not suffer fools" or take crap from those who don't really have my best interest at heart. Out of guilt and lack of self worth, I took enough shit, and I am grateful for the ability to see I no longer have to "take it".

God bless Dr. Phil and Oprah and their "balls" to stand up to ANYONE who doesn't have the ability to be under the microscope! I love how Dr. Phil can make BSers just shrivel up and shrink away!

473. I give Phil a lot of credit. I've seen many times where he's totally nailed down a person's problem very quickly, something a therapist would take many months to uncover. You may not like him, but he's as good at what he does as Jack Nicklaus is at what he does!!

474. Dr. PPHil is not a real doctor anyway

475. Remember TOM? From the Dr. Phil weight loss challenge 3 years ago. Tom is a nice guy and loved in our community. But Dr. Phil dropped him like a hot potato - when he gained some of the weight back. I don't see the Dr. Phil show running much longer, unless the guest start swinging at each other and the female audience starts "Showing their headlights!!!". What more can that show cover? 8 year olds having children?

476. Dr. Phil will be around for a LONG, LONG, LONG time. It's a HUGELY successful show. He is so on target and it's obvious he wants to help very "sick" people. People that society can not deal with.

Don't like the show? DON'T WATCH IT! He has millions of fans.

I love you Dr. Phil!

477. You Know ..... After reading a lot of these posts....... I’ve got to say that the only way to help these drug addicts and the people that are thinking about doing drugs, is to have a Dr. Phil padded room, about 3300 square feet. Put them all in that room with a feeding tube (like gerbils) for about 7 days and see how many die or kill. Make it a live feed Dr. Phil cable channel. I have a sister that is chemically dependent and has tried every known drug she could get her hands on. We have spent thousands of hours in counseling, drug rehab, methadone treatment, AA, Alanone, NA, etc. She is now 37 and in a women’s shelter. 2 kids ..She can’t care for…
Maybe it’s all genetic, because she was adopted at the age of 7 days. After 20 years of watching my parents slowly loose their hope, money, and health insurance for their daughter, Cold Turkey is the only way to get off drugs. Try that show idea on………. Dr. Phil ….I’d buy tickets to that show. But of course you don’t have the guts or staff to think up that one.

478. Allot of sone's being thrown! I can only hope Dr. Phil strives for Progress rather than Perfection as I do.
Thank You Dr. Phil for showing you are Human too!

479. Hey Podspank,

I have 2 druggie brothers. One is 50, one is 48. Both have left a mountain of devistation with multiple children neither one ever pays child support for. They have stolen and done nothing worthwhile in their entire lives.

I am not sure why you are so down on Dr Phil.

You sound terribly bitter, hateful and jealous.

Again, Dr. Phil has been of huge help to me over these years get over being a doormat to my dysfunctional family and former abusive husband.

I think if you were to meet up with Dr. Phil and have an discussion one on one...you'd end up looking pretty foolish.

480. Some of you commentators may or may not understand what it is like to work with and try to help alcoholic's and drug addict's; myself being a meth addict for over 10-year's and an alcoholic for over 20-year's I understand too well.
I have a drug and alcohol program I take into School's and drug houses and teach people ( especially kid's ) how and why to Say NO to Drug's! After a failed attempt at suicide over 19-year's ago I checked myself into a treatment center and have been clean and sober since. Please visit me at www.SayNOtoMeth.com
As for Dr. Phil, give him some credit for what he is doing. It is nearly impossible to please and do what everyone think's is right but at least he is doing something.
Remember, together we can all make a difference in someone's life, if we try!
